Just found this amazing photo taken by the NASA MODIS Rapid Response System. At 11:50am today (Jan 7th 2010) the MODIS system returned this image of the UK. I’ve never seen such a high percentage of the mainland covered by snow and ice.

Well as I was unable to get into work today I thought I would get out and take a few photos. Here are a few taken from around the harbour area plus 3 quick snaps from outside the house showing the amount of snow still falling, not bad for Southerly Cornwall.

Crank 2 fails on Panasonic DMP-BD35

I rented Crank 2 today and had problems, the disc loads for 2-3 minutes then a loading screen pops up, after about another minute the progress bar stops. It played the studio music, but pic was still frozen on the loading screen, and then the film menu (or rather a piece of it) came up in a box about 4″ square over the frozen loading screen.

First thing i did was update the firmware to the latest version, which is currently v1.6, but it still does not work.

Lionsgate are confirming that the BD Live title will only play back correctly on Profile 2 Blu-ray players with internal memory (or connected external USB). If you try and spin the disc on a Profile 2 player without sufficient memory available, the film itself will be visible only in a small, distorted onscreen window, exactly as I was seeing!

Anyway the solution is quite simple if you own a Panasonic DMP-BD35, I simply ejected the disc, stuck in a 2Gb SD card that I had laying around and bingo, the movie played without issue. I guess that 2Gb SD card will be a permanent resident in my Blu-ray player now!

The Dark Knight on Blu-ray

Well I have finally got around to putting my movies and games database back online. I have so many films that it takes me ages to search for what I have so this way is the easiest method I have to search for them. The links are off of the main menu at the top of the page if you are interested.

I have a simple mySQL backend database and have written custom pages that integrate in my WordPress site.

Fixed: Outlook Junk E-mail1 folder

Office Outlook

Since migrating my work mailbox from Novell GroupWise to Microsoft Exchange my Junk E-mail folder within Microsoft Outlook was renamed Junk E-mail1. If I tried to rename the folder from within Outlook the option was greyed out so there seemed no simple way to do this, it annoyed me to be honest!

Well today I have solved it and my Junk E-mail1 folder is now labeled Junk E-mail. How did I do this? It was really really simple, all I needed to do was to close Outlook then relaunch it once with outlook.exe /resetfoldernames

That was it, like I said simple!

Bluetooth sync with Nokia N95

Since I bought my Nokia N95 it has never synchronised that well with my various bluetooth devices such as my Parrot CK3200LS and Alpine CDE-103BT. My previous Sony c phones had no problem in keeping the two phonebooks in sync with whatever was on the phone but the N95 had to ‘push’ it’s contacts manually.

I now appear to have found the solution, it is in the form of a small Nokia application that you install onto the phone and it monitors whenever an existing bluetooth connection is established and then automatically carries out the sync.

The software can be found on the Nokia website [http://europe.nokia.com/A4143881] for the N95 8Gb you need the Nokia 810 Contact Download Application for Nokia S60 3rd edition devices version. Install it using your Nokia PC Suite and set it to auto run on start-up and auto sync then clear your bluetooth pairings between devices, recreate them and it will sync automatically every time you connect.

BMW 1-Series M-Sport

Well I have finally got my new car and it is fantastic! It has been spec’ed up to the M-Sport level and then had a number of BMW Performance parts fitted such as the additional bodykit and alloy wheels for starters. Anyway let us cut to the chase, here are the photos!
